Want to know God’s will for your life?
First understand that you have a will and God has a will. We hope they are the same, if they aren't then your will is the one that should not matter! If your will and His will doesn't match, too bad, His will is the one that goes on! You will never go anywhere until you get this one.
Remember Jesus’ prayer, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” Not our will, not my will, you have to get this part! We have to get control of our willfulness. You will hurt yourself and your life if you don't get control of this. You have to get that God has a will for your life.
Here are six keys to help you live out God’s will.
1. Is This Something Scriptural? Is it in the will of God? Anything that causes you to step down, slow down or cool down it isn’t His will. This is a race we are running, we are never to slow down.Run everything through the word of God and make sure it lines up! (Example: God doesn't tell people to get a divorce. And it's not scriptural for us to be partnered with a person that doesn't care about God.)
2. Do You Have Inner Peace? If it's the will of God you should have some inner peace. If there's turmoil you should settle that, and if your partner has turmoil you should settle that. If it's not scriptural you can't have inner peace. And the wise person seeks counsel, they should witness to you and give “outer” peace. Your actions should provide a good witness, if you present it to others and they don't have a good witness or peace from it, it's probably not from God. If it’s the will of God, you’ll have a witness in your spirit and others will confirm it. Seek inner peace and seek Godly counsel. The Godly counsel helps protect against deception.
3. Do The Circumstances Call For It? Is there a need for what you’re thinking about? Your passion for something may not dictate that there is a real need for it at the moment. When there is an opportunity to use all of the things that God has been developing in you, that may be a sign what is God's will. Is there a need for it? We should fill God's need first. That’s when you have to do whatever it takes to get God’s will done. Sometimes when you're called to do the will of God, it may not match the circumstances in your life. God's circumstances may say yes, but our personal stances say no, we need to "crawl over it" to do the will of God. Go over it or dig a tunnel to make it happen. But it has to be what God is calling you to, not just what you're wanting to do. 4. Recognize, "Short-Term" and "Long-Term" Will Of God. God may have a worldwide ministry for you down the road, but right now He just wants to see you read your Bible every day.
If you fail at the short-term will of God, you may disqualify yourself for the long-term. Start doing the short-term today and get ready for what’s ahead. Start reading your bible, start regular attendance, learn to flow in the Spirit. Discipline yourself in the short term will to be prepared for the long term. Faithful in the little things, Faithful in giving. If God's will is for you to touch the world in the Long Term, you need to become a Big Time Giver in the short term. Sometimes God's will asks us to give something that is hard for us to give. Some people never get to the long term, it takes commitment and discipline. Many people live in the short-term, you have to learn to be faithful. Press in. Short term you have to be a great student, zoom in, be faithful learner, great receiver, Long term you are going to be in front of people and a great giver if you have been faithful through the short-term.
5. Have You Counted The Cost? It is God's will for you to have God's will cost you. Don't presume someone else will be giving money to pay your way. Plan on nobody else paying for it. Anything that is God’s will is worth you paying for. If nobody else helps pay for it, are you still going to do it? Be prepared so nobody can stop you.
6. Take The Time To Become Something In God. God always calls us to become something before you do something. Let this same mind that was in Jesus Christ be in you. Be a doer of His word. "Take the time to become what you’re supposed to be and what you’re supposed to do will come easy for you." If you don't become who you're supposed to become, it will be hard for you, people will not respond to you because you haven't become what you're supposed to become.
